Three months after I made my first review of a vaporesso product, today I’m about to embark on a new journey into one of its latest and most acclaimed machines vaporesso luxe 220w.
Yes, indeed. Our old acquaintance, the sub-ohm tank vaporesso skrr, which opened for us the doors to a world of new sensations, returns to our lives with renewed energy since, this time, it reached our hands with the mod for which it was conceived: the vaporesso Luxe mod ! Top quality sub-ohm vaping, as it should always be. The circle has closed…
Many things have happened since that naive, first review where we managed to plug that 27.5mm diameter tank into the only mod we had on hand at that time, which only admits up to 23mm: the otherwise magnificent Vaporesso SWAG.
We are proud to remember how the little mod took down that titanic task as the true legend it is,despite the obvious difficulties. But this belongs to another story, whose vicissitudes you can
revisit if you search for it in our social media. We’re sure you’ll manage to find it.
What occupies us today is the present. Or is it maybe the future? We’re not sure. What is certain is that, although the luxe 220w tc is a mod that has been out there for a few months already in a market that renews itself practically every week, it is still riding the crest of a beautiful wave, ruling from the top of the mountain, leading the electronic mod sector amongst la creme de la creme of the vape world… You get the picture, right? Without belonging to the high end or the “luxury” tier, Vaporesso brought to the table a set of features very, and we mean VERY remarkable with this LUXE kit.
The first thing that we loved about it is that the design that we got to review was the Green Ape! Here, at Vape Cooper Reviews, we are as much passionate about monkeys as we are about vape.
In front of us, we have a pretty small and very colorful box, representing the green and black colors of the mod itself, with a photo of it, which occupies much of the space on the lid. On one side there are printed some of the top features of this kit: Quadruple air distribution system, big ass screen, OMNI Board 4.0, etc …, and in the other side, only the word “Vaporesso”. Then, on the upper side, we see the slogan of this kit: “Welcome to the World of the Tailored Beast”.
In the back of the vaporesso luxe mod you will find more details of what this product has to offer, all the information regarding the contents of the kit, licenses, company information, serial numbers and authentication codes. The texture of the box feel quite nice, like satin effect, although we do not see information regarding whether the materials used are recycled or not, so we assume that it is not. A real pity, because that would have been the cherry on top.
It’s been a while since my brain started thinking obsessively of the characteristic odors that emanate from the majority of the new electronic devices which, in this world of technology and gadgets, is almost like a drug for many of us. Just like the songs from the sirens did with Ulises and his crew, it possess my mind and commands my hands imperatively to open the damn box without further delay. And then… sniff, sniff … oh, that’s what I’m talking about.
As I get out of this cathartic and olfactory trance, The first thing we see is a reproduction stamped on a cardboard of the mod to real size! Similar to a specs card but nicer.Once we overcome this first shock and the cardboard was thrown away to the other end of the room like a frisbee, now for real: the LUXE with the SKRR on top, both presented in a white plastic sheet molded to measure. The tank comes as is, but luxe 220w kit is wrapped in some kind of protective mortise, in addition the classic adhesive plastic film stuck on both sides of the body to protect the glossy finishes and the screen.
Under all this, we find the standard documentation, consisting of the quality control card, the info and warnings of the batteries, the instruction booklet and a very cute tiny envelope with the warranty card inside. Also, we get a micro-USB to USB cable with metallic features, an additional drip, spare rubber rings and an extra glass for the tank (capacity will vary depending on where you buy it)
In addition to the QF Meshed coil (0.20 Ohm), that comes as spare in the kit, they give us a QF Strip coil (0.15 Ohm) pre-installed in the tank, which has a design very similar to the mesh, but with a pattern of round holes instead of a pattern in X. and you can always search google “Vaporesso QF Strip coil” and see some pictures of the whole thing.
Specification of Skrr Sub ohm Tank :
- 27.8mm diameter
- 8ml capacity (2ml in TPD version)
- 3 lower air inlets and quadruple air flow optimisation inside
- Robust construction
- Design for leakage and spit-back reduction
- Bell-shaped core that distributes the air for a warmer and fuller puff
- Top filling with child proof system
- Compatibility with QF and GT coils
- Comes in 8 different colors
With good size and weight, The skrr tank looks like it can withstand one or two accidental falls without much troubles (except for the glass. That would break if you hit it just like any other glass). The air intake regulating ring offers some nice resistance but it rotates very comfortably, and the 510 floating pin is gold coated *bling bling*.
The drip that comes screwed in the tank is definitely much nicer than the spare one, which is just a piece of black plastic, as it has a glossy lacquered finish with very cool glittery designs in it. Oh, and you heard it right: it comes actually “screwed” in the tank.
The reason for that is the child proof system we mentioned earlier: To be able to fill it yourself and not your unruly offspring, you just need to unscrew the drip and press on the marked side of the lid so that it slides just enough to let the filling hole show through, where once can pour the e-liquid in. a child-proof security system, but it is much more practical and awesome than that.
Someone say that this does not provide much security child-wise, others say it is impractical. honestly, it hasn’t bothered us that much, and it gets rid of the feared possibility of accidental lid opening while you carry the thank in your pocket, purse or backpack, avoiding accidental leakages over your precious belongings. The fact is that it works very well and takes literally two seconds to work it out.
A very simple and effective design, reminiscences of a mobile phone from the pre-smartphone era become obvious, The large 2-inch TFT screen that covers a good part of the front side of the device, also the rectangular shape with soft edges that make luxe mod 220w very comfortable to hold. The body is made of a single block of silver-colored, texturized zinc alloy (the color depends on the design we have), with two shiny plastic covers on both the front and back.
One cover houses the color screen, the capacitive buttons (Be aware! This mod does NOT sport a touch screen, Only the selection and menu buttons, which are below the screen, are tactile), and the name of the manufacturer and the model, which are illuminated at the same time as the rest of the elements on this side of the device. A very nice touch.
On the other side we have the battery cover, which comes in a bunch of different designs to katter different tastes. Ours is the almighty shouting green monkey : The Green Ape. The coolest thing about this design is that it freaking glows in the dark! Especially when it’s been taking direct sunlight or from another strong luminic source, when we get into a dark place, we will see the cheeky monkey shine with a greenish glow, nice and clear.
The battery cover is magnetized, opens and closes very easily and does not wiggle, not even a tiny bit. Inside we have the compartment for the two 18650 batteries, with the polarity perfectly indicated both inside the gaps and on the back of the lid.
At the bottom of the device, right in the metal frame of the mod, there are the battery compartment ventilation slots, and on the right side (if we face the screen) and rather on the upper half, the fire button, which It is also metallic and has a good click and a perfect firmness to press it comfortably but not allowing accidental firing when we grab it.
On the top side, we find the floating 510 pin port, surrounded by a stainless steel ring with the perfect diameter to accommodate the SKRR, with a triangle-shaped engraving on it. but it still has a bit of surface left over on each side, so it would take atty up to 30mm wide without any overhang.
Without feeling fragile at all, this vaporesso luxe kit 220w is rather lightweight, and it feels very good in the hand. The only downside I with the overall construction is that it’s going to giveaway our dirty greasy fingerprints at the first chance, and this may lead the most scrupulous users to spend the day wiping them off the glossy screen. Fingerprint magnet alert!

With the batteries already installed, the device starts up automatically, showing an animation of the Vaporesso logo on big full color display, and emitting a small vibration, similar to when we press the menu or selection buttons, again giving us the feeling that we are using a mobile phone.
The main screen looks very tidy, it’s very easy to read and shows us the charge level of the batteries, if they keys are locked, the vaping mode we are in and if we have the “Smart” mode selected, the wattage or temperature selected (depending on the vape mode that we are using), which also has a graphic display with things that move on the screen when we take the puff, the resistance of the coil detected, the fluctuation of the wattage or voltage while we press the fire button , puff counter … very much every piece of information we would need to access instantly.
Let us confess that we haven’t a clue on what the Smart Mode thing do. In theory, it automatically adjust the best voltage for your vaping experience. On practice, we haven’t noticed any difference with it turned on and turned off.
Another nice thing about this mod is that everything is very well thought out: the selection buttons are locked after we press the fire button in order to avoid changing the configuration accidentally with the palm of your hand, and they that way until we unlock them by pressing the fire button 3 times quickly.
While in the main screen, we can increase and decrease the power or temperature settings with these two selection buttons. Also, we can access the vaping mode quick menu by pressing the fire and the left button, and the same but with the right button to access the quick selection of “hard / normal / soft” modes in VW, or wattage in any of the TC modes.
Quickly pressing 3 times will bring us to the main menu screen, which is very simple and easy to navigate. There, we can now make more precise selections in the vaping modes, like adjusting the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR), the curves of power and temperature, select the material in your resistances, etc … besides some other, more mundane things like setting the clock, change the screen color theme (only in some firmware versions), reset the puff counter…
Having already unraveled the secrets of its electronics, let’s now screw the tank in and put into practice everything we’ve learned so far.In any case, prime your coil properly, fill the tank enough to cover the drainage holes around the coil you are using, and let the cotton soak really good for a few minutes before firing your first time. In the meanwhile, let’s make a bit of time adjusting the air inlets and setting the vaping mode of variable wattage, 70W “Normal” response, and when we feel that it’s ready, let’s give it a big fat draw.
The coil heats up in the blink of an eye, and the air flow is definitely to lose your freaking mind! Very, very easy to inhale, and very satisfying too. The vapour has a lot of flavor and a nice warm feeling, due to the bell-shaped design (or “bullet”, as they call it) of the internal air distribution design, which distributes air consistently throughout the coil.
I have noticed in flavors with menthol hints, the freshness of this type of molecule is very prominent, leaving the sweetish taste a little in the background. By regulating the air intake we can adjust the amount of flavour and vapour that we will get on every draw, but me, I like it wide open/full on.
Another of the great features of this tank is the reduction of leaks and spit back, and I have to admit that it won’t disappoint. During the time I have been using it, turning it around, carrying it in my pocket or completely loose in a backpack: the amount of juice missed has been minimal to non existent. In addition, not a single drop of fluid has come out from the drip to my mouth, no matter how continuous and intense my vaping is. For me, this is possible the best thing about the tank.
Having noticed that this QF Stripe coil can take higher wattage, and after testing it at 65 and 70,I set my LUXE to 80w in VW mode. The amount of flavor that can be drawn from our e-liquids with this tank is incredible. It may even be too much for some palates. For my experience, I have found a sweet spot at 70w for not-so-sweet e-liquids, and maybe a bit less for dessert kind of juices. Thanks to the 8ml capacity in this tank, we had enough broth to vape for hours without need to refill.
Overall: Massive vapour production , an intense flavour that makes you want to be hooked to the drip tip all day long.
Unlike other reviewers, I think the QF Strip coils perform better than the QF Meshed. I haven’t noticed any remarkable differences between them, and even with a GT Mesh coil, besides the size of them. Obviously, the improved airflow and all the other advantages of this tank will shine a lot brighter when we match it with one of their QF coils, but both vapour production and flavor actually remain pretty much at par, which is a great thing in my opinion. As for the juice consumption, it is exactly the same for both QF Strip and Meshed: outrageous.
Finally, using a GT Ccell, which I normally do with my NRG tanks, the result is optimal: you have all the flavour and reliability of the ceramic resistances, but with a much softer and easier inhalation thanks to the three big air intakes in this tank, which allow me to keep my eyeballs inside their sockets whenever I decide to give it a long deep draw. On the other hand, and despite that this coils don’t have the exclusive design of the QFs, I haven’t noticed excessive spit back and very little leakage either.
But no, not everything is good in this world, and this kit is no exception. There are some things
that could be improved, and things don’t make much sense to me.
- Starting from a purely bureaucratic issue
Taking into account the European laws that limit the capacity of the tanks sold in the EU, I don’t know if it’s really practical having a tank like this in its TPD version and be able to pour in just 2ml of juice, because you will have to be filling it up again very soon. With the 8ml version, no problem so, if you have the chance, get one of these instead.
- the controversial topic of the childproof filling system.
As I said, it doesn’t bother me too much. and I think it’s really good to avoid unwanted spillages, but I have my concerns about its effectiveness at childproofing the tank. That’s mainly because most kids can not only grab, pull and tear apart things, but also twist and unscrew tiny objects like a drip tip pretty easily. In fact, they’re pretty good at it! At least the human children with, you know, opposable thumbs and those kind of things. So, you’d better keeping your vape gear out of their reach.
In short, The vaporesso luxe 220W tc starter kit is possibly the best that Vaporesso has manufactured to the date, and I have been quite satisfied with its design, features and performance in the real world, both mod and ato. Saving a couple of small things, I can claim loud and clear that, because of its balance between simplicity, and sophistication and innovation, this may well be my favourite electronic kit in the whole world. So far…
The same goes for the SKRR tank: possibly my favorite sub-ohm tank to date, and no, I haven’t tried them all, but neither have I tried few. This is an excellent tank for anyone who wants to enjoy big clouds, a taste well above your average atomizer and all the comfort of a tank that doesn’t consume more liquid than the one that is vaped which, on the other hand, is quite a lot, but at least you won’t miss any from leakage.
